Frequently Asked Question

UPVC stands for Unplasticised Polyvinyl Chloride. The main benefits of this material include high durability, excellent thermal insulation, low maintenance and high security.
We understand that loud noises and noise issues can be highly frustrating when you are relaxing at home. Our UPVC doors as well as being thermally efficient offer excellent noise reduction – allowing you to enjoy peace and quiet when in the comfort of your own home. This sound insulation combines with thermal insulation to provide a fully efficient replacement for your existing doors.
Yes, modern uPVC doors offer excellent security, especially when they are fitted with multi-point locking systems and reinforced steel frames.
Yes, modern uPVC doors are designed to be efficient, thanks to the multi-chambered designs of their frames, and they can come with double or triple-glazed glass. Doors with high Door Energy Rating, such as an A-rating or a low U-value, will maximise heat retention and help lower your energy bills.
UPVC is a 100% recyclable material, meaning that once UPVC doors have reached the end of their lifespan, the UPVC elements of the door can be completely recycled for other UPVC or composite products. UPVC resists elemental damage and requires little to no maintenance once installed. It’s a fantastic choice for the main material of a door, offering durability, security and thermal efficiency.
Timber was historically used as a material for external doors due to its visual appeal. However, without strict regular maintenance, timber will weaken due to rot and elemental damage. This poses a security risk and damages the doors over time. As these doors deteriorate further, they become weaker and can be broken into more easily. UPVC doesn’t rot, requires little to no maintenance once the doors are installed and resists environmental damage. There are many styles available that allow you to match the style of timber without the disadvantages of the material.
Our range of UPVC doors is highly thermally efficient – allowing you to save money on your energy bills and make a return on your investment over time. It’s estimated that around 25% to 30% of all heat that is lost in the home is due to doors and windows. Investing in upgraded UPVC windows and doors as well as insulation is a great way to increase your energy efficiency and reduce the amount of energy that you use – saving you money on energy bills.
Composite is a material often selected for front doors. It has similar benefits to uPVC, yet offers enhanced durability and security. Composite front doors are designed for better energy efficiency and to reduce the heat lost through your door. This protects the front of your home from intruders, so many homeowners choose composite doors for external doors and then UPVC doors for their internal doors. Both materials require little to no maintenance and feature exceptional security systems as standard.
UPVC doors come with advanced multi-point locking systems to secure the door at multiple points along the frame. Combine this with a reinforced frame and an anti-snap, anti-bump, and anti-drill cylinder lock, and you’ll benefit from maximum security.
If you wish to personalise your uPVC door further, we offer a range of hardware, colours and glazing options so you can make the door your own.
We offer a wide range of colours beyond the standard white, including popular Anthracite Grey, Chartwell Green and woodgrain effects such as Rosewood and Irish Oak. We also offer different panel and glazing styles to suit both traditional and modern Bristol homes.
The maintenance of your UPVC doors is straightforward; simply clean your doors with soapy water or a specific UPVC cleaning agent and a cloth and your doors will look good as new. UPVC doesn’t require any treatments as the material is resistant to all rot, and environmental damage and pests cannot eat through the material. It’s recommended that you carry out regular checks of your door for visual damage as well as visible condensation on doors that feature glazing.
There will be visual indicators that your door is in need of replacement. If you can see physical signs of damage or wear and tear, then it’s likely time to consider purchasing a replacement door. If you are spending a significant amount on energy bills and find that there are draughts around your doors, then it may be time to consider a replacement as this will save you money on energy bills in the long run. The lifespan of doors depends on their material as well as their age. Timber doors will completely depend on how they have been maintained. Aluminium doors typically have a lifespan of around 45 to 50 years. UPVC doors have a lifespan of around 20+ years. Composite doors have a lifespan of 30+ years.
UPVC doors can technically be painted after installation but if this is required then it’s highly recommended to arrange for professional painting. Our UPVC doors come equipped with a wide range of different colours and finishes which means that you don’t need to paint your door after installation. Once your door is installed, you don’t need to worry about maintaining your finish – just simply wash your door with a soapy solution or a UPVC cleaning product and a cloth.
Modern UPVC doors have exceptional finishes and technology which increases their longevity. UPVC doors resist elemental damage and general wear which is why they are a fantastic choice for external doors that are exposed to the elements. If UPVC doors discolour, this will be at the end of their lifespan and an additional indicator that it’s time to consider a replacement front or internal door.

Make sure not to use the following on your uPVC door:

  • Abrasive cleaners or scouring pads,
  • Pressure washers or steam cleaners,
  • Bleach or solvents,
  • Adhesives.
You generally won’t need planning permission to install a new uPVC door if it is a like-for-like replacement similar in size and appearance, in the original door opening. However, you will need planning permission if your home is a listed building, is located within a conservation area, or if you wish to change the location or size of the door.

As a CERTASS-certified installer, we will register the installation with the relevant body. This is a legal requirement for most replacement external doors, ensuring that the installation complies with thermal performance and safety standards, providing you with a Building Regulation Compliance Certificate.
